We have all met those little babies who are too pretty to be a boy, and this one is no exception.
You know those seasons in life that come from behind, take you by surprise, and keep you in a revolving door for awhile?
It’s not unusual for a client to say, “Can you order up a beautiful sky for our photos?”
"A thing that you see in my pictures is that I was not afraid to fall in love with these people".
Annie Leibovitz
You know how things left unattended in the outdoor elements lose the luster and vibrance that they once had?
It’s been a few months since the last post. Didn’t plan it that way, but it happened — and there’s not much explanation behind it, other than my friends Ebb, and Flow.
As a photographer over the years, it finally registered with me that when capturing an image — what I’m really doing, is harnessing light. Without light, there is no image. Everything goes dark - nothing registers on the lens.
We seem to love a good reason to celebrate, outdoors.
And why not? As things are, we spend far too much time focused on work and staring at our phones. Having an event that is worthwhile - to take time off, or plan a holiday around - is well worth the fanfare.
One such celebration is the annual Blue Angels annual airshow on Pensacola beach. Those of us who've watched them for years fondly call them "the Blues". And these remarkable pilots are heroes in our eyes. Their dedication, and commitment to perfection in precision is nothing short of incredible to watch. The show never disappoints, but sometimes the weather can be less than cooperative. However, that wasn't the case this year.
Everything was near perfect.
There’s something about the sand, and our toes in it.
We have this in common when it comes to sand. When on the beach, we have sandy toes. And we dig our toes through the sand. Shoes don’t matter, here. They don’t even work well, here.
In fact, when we hit beach, shoes are shed, and shunned.
This is a journey quite personal, to me.
Having lived with more, done more, earned more, accumulated more — I gained what didn’t matter, and lost what I can never regain.
A few years ago, the proverbial rug (of life) was pulled out from under me, and I was forced to adjust to much, much less.
And the process was hard - yet through it I found a life I enjoyed living… so much more.
Doing what matters can bring big (scary) dreams.
One of my favorite pastimes when sitting on the beach is to watch how young children and babies react to seeing and feeling the ocean for the first time in their lives. Oh how I wish I had a video of this milestone, with my own children. That’s one of the blessings of this time with our smart phones and digital cameras. Today, everything can be captured, and it will be incredible for this generation to look back on, and truly re-live their childhood.
The different reactions are entertaining, but also revealing.
I believe they are the most photographed couple outside of royalty.
